Amazon Deceases Free Shipping Minimum. Last month while I was buying something online from Walmart I noticed that they were offering free two-day shipping with a minimum purchase of $35. This is probably old news but now Amazon has decreased its minimum purchase for FREE shipping to $35 from $49. The last change Amazon made was in February 2016 when it went from $35 to $49. I’m sure Amazon did this in reaction to Walmart. Who doesn’t love a shopping war?!
Amazon doesn’t offer the lowest price
My shopping at Amazon has been steadily decreasing over time because they rarely have the lowest prices anymore particularly when the purchase involves tax. If you do a little work and are patient you can find sales and discounts at other retailers like Walgreens, CVS, OfficeMax, Staples, etc.
Get free shipping year round by being organized and patient
In order to never pay for shipping at Amazon I add items to my cart and when they reach the minimum (and I recheck all the prices) I pull the trigger to buy. Yes it takes five or six days to receive the order but I never have had an emergency when I needed something in the next day or two.
Free shipping on books
Another way to qualify for free shipping on Amazon is if your cart includes $25 or more in qualifying books. Since Chicago has one of the best public libraries in the country I never buy books but there it is if you do.
