Amazon Deceases Free Shipping Minimum Again. In the ongoing battle between King Kong (Amazon) and Godzilla (Walmart) for our precious consumer dollars Amazon has reduced it’s minimum purchase for free shipping again – this time from $35 to $25!
Walmart’s minimum purchase for free shipping remains unchanged at $35. And at the same time Mothra (aka Target) has inexplicably raised their minimum from $25 to $35.
Battle Heats up
Apparently the ongoing battle between the two has heated up lately with Walmart increasing their scouring of Amazon’s site and matching their prices on millions of products.
Amazon doesn’t offer the lowest price
My shopping at Amazon dropped to almost zero lately because they rarely have the lowest prices anymore particularly when the purchase includes sales tax.
I ignore the incessant articles declaring Amazon the cheapest because they are comparing a basket of goods that I am not buying. Every purchase situation is different.
If you do a little work and are patient you can find sales and discounts at other retailers like Walgreens, CVS, OfficeMax, Staples, Bed Bath Beyond, and Target. Even Walmart comes into the mix now with their battle to price match King Kong.
Get free shipping year round by being organized and patient
In order to never pay for shipping at Amazon (including the $110 annual Prime fee) I add items to my cart and when they reach the minimum I pull the trigger to buy (after I recheck all the prices against competitor prices) . Yes it takes five or eight days to receive the order but I never have had an emergency when I needed something in the next day or two.
Free shipping on books
This will apply once Amazon raises their shipping minimum again.
Another way to qualify for free shipping on Amazon is if your cart includes $25 or more in qualifying books. Since Chicago has one of the best public libraries in the country I never buy books but there it is if you do.
