Since every website on earth has a list of Black Friday and Cyber Monday electronics and other merchandise deals I thought I’d provide a list of deals for something much more lasting – travel! If you’ve been thinking about booking a trip now might be the time to book. Check back I’ll update this as new deals come in.
Amazon: QuietComfort 20 in-ear headphones for $199.
Okay not strictly travel but really a must with today’s cramped planes. This price is available now. Regularly $249.
Costco: Bose Triple Black QuietComfort 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones for $239.
This is actually the regular price I saw in the store recently and that is also available online. Generally they retail for $299.
Rumor has it (on the interwebs) that Expedia will be having a big sale including hotel rooms in Vegas for $10. Now if you’re not a familiar with Vegas you might want to read this post. There are some hotels in Vegas that offer rooms for $29 a night fairly regularly. Skip any hotel not on my list. And don’t forget all Vegas hotels charge a resort fee that is $29-35 per night plus tax. You cannot get out of the resort fee. So that $10 room may really around $50-$60. Still if you can get a room at Aria, Cromwell, Delano or other top properties it’s a great deal. Assuming the rumors are true.
Fairmont Hotels: 20% Gift Card Bonus
Fairmont will be offering a 20% bonus on e-gift card purchases on Friday, November 25 from 1PM till 4PM EST.
You can only make one purchase but you can purchase up to $5,000 in gift cards which will result in a $1,000 bonus. If you have a stay coming up this is a great way to save 17% on a future stay.
Each gift card can be up to $2,000, if you want to maximize this offer you should load your shopping cart with a few gift cards and then make your purchase.
It appears that you can choose pay in either US or Canadian dollars. I’m not sure I would want to get into currency hedging but you can use the gift card in currencies other than the one they’re issued in. Read all the rules about e-gift card purchases.
One thing to keep in mind when you use gift cards: When you check in to a hotel they will take your credit card. In the middle of the night on the day you are checking out the hotel is going to charge your credit card for the stay. If you’re departing early you should go down to the front desk in the middle of the night and have them reverse the charge and apply the gift cards.
You may not want to wait until check out to do this if you will be in a hurry. I’ve used discounted gift cards at many Hyatt’s, a few Marriott’s and a couple Four Seasons and sometimes the front desk person doesn’t know how to do it and have to call someone.
Hyatt: Save up to save up to 25%.
Book the Holiday Rate on Hyatt.com by November 29 to save up to 25% at participating Hyatt hotels in the U.S. and Latin America for stays through 2017. You can check out all participating hotels and the discount here. The big caveat with this sale is that the Holiday Rate is non-refundable, so make sure you are absolutely certain of your travel plans.
I checked the rate for a trip I already have planned and the sale rate was not available. I checked the Hyatt Herald Square NYC for a random date in January and the Holiday Rate was only $13 less than the Standard Rate, which you can cancel. So make sure to check all rates available to ensure you are actually getting a deal. If you prefer to call Hyatt to make reservations, ask them to check on the “Hyatt Holiday Rate.”
Hyatt is also offering up to 25% off stays at 160-plus hotels around the world when you book by February 28, 2017 for stays between December 15, 2016 and March 15, 2017.
This sale starts on Cyber Monday, November 28 at 8:00 a.m. and runs through Friday, December 2 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. When it’s live, go here for discounts at participating properties in the US, Canada, Caribbean, Mexico, Latin and South America.
When you book eligible stays between November 25-28 directly through Marriott using the promo code 444, you’ll get 25% off at more than 2,100 of its hotels and resorts around the world for stays between December 9, 2016 and January 16, 2017. Book online or through a hotel with code “444”. Travel dates vary by region. You’ll be eligible for higher discounts if you’re a Marriott Rewards member. Membership is free.
Starwood Cyber Monday Deals Start Now
This sale offers up to 35% off your stay for bookings through September 4, 2017. You need to book by December 4, 2016. You can check out all participating hotels and the discount here. The special rate code is HEPNAD. The big caveat with this sale is that the Holiday Rate is non-refundable, so make sure you are absolutely certain of your travel plans. You’ll be eligible for higher discounts if you’re a Starwood Preferred member. It’s free to join.
I didn’t have any Starwood bookings on hold so I wasn’t able to compare “old” rates with the sale rates. I checked several hotels in NYC for random dates in January-March and there was no availability. Hopefully you won’t have the same problem with your destination. Just make sure to check all rates available to ensure you are actually getting a deal.
