The Congress Hotel is an old-line hotel – not fancy, but not bad, either. It’s in a great location – right by Grant Park, near good restaurants, and a quick jaunt to the museum campus and North Michigan Avenue. The neighborhood is fine, with a lot of students at nearby Columbia College Chicago. (I’ve spent a ton of time in the area, dragging a child to music lessons at Columbia.) Groupon is offering a deal of $97 a night. If you are checking out Chicago on the Cheap to prepare for your big trip, you might want to take a look!
A good game is a good time, and Apples to Apples is a great game. The Spanish edition, Manzanas con Manzanas, is pretty good, too. Both are good games with large groups, including of mixed ages. (If you’re playing Manzanas con Manzanas, it helps to know a little Spanish.) Groupon has both for $10.99 each. If you need something for a rainy day, a television-free vacation, or to sneak some learning into the summer, check this out.
A cheapskate can dream, right? Sometimes, it’s fun to see how the other half lives. Groupon is offering a subscription to both Food & Wine and Travel & Leisure for $19. If only there were a magazine called Family & Friends, and you’d have all the good things in life right there.
$15 for admission and drinks at B.L.U.E.S. on Halsted
Chicago is the only city in the world where you can see live blues every night of the week. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, a night at one of the city’s blues clubs is always a good time. Groupon is offering cover and a round of drinks for $15 at B.L.U.E.S on Halsted. Plan your summer fun now!
CTA 3-day pass for $9.00 on Groupon
This is a great deal whether you are a CTA commuter or you are planning a visit to Chicago this summer. Groupon has a three-day CTA pass for just $9.00. Normally, a three-day pass costs $20, and at a cash price of $2.25 a ride, it would be hard to get full value. But at $9.00? You can get to and from work, or shopping, or museums, or both airports. Pretty nifty!
The card must be activated by September 1, 2013, and it expires 72 hours from activation. If you’re planning a summer visit, you have plenty of time to use the card.
Discount admission to pH Comedy Theater
The pH Theater are the folks behind the annual Zombie Pub Crawl. Their bread-and-butter is a series of improv comedy shows. Some are free, like the Wednesday night open mic pHree for All. The weekend shows are $10 a person ($5 for students) which isn’t bad. Right now,Groupon is selling $10 admission for 2 people. How fun is that?
Groupon at Cheesie’s Pub & Grub
Cheesie’s Pub & Grub on Belmont in Lakeview is a fine restaurant anyway – I’m fond of the Napoleon – and it’s even better with a Groupon.
As you plan your weekend, you may be shocked to discover that you don’t have a Groupon to use. Indulge in instant gratification and save up to 90% on the best local restaurants, shops, events and more at Groupon.com! Chances are good you’ll see something fun in Groupon’s inventory that you can use to have fun tonight!
