Visit creepy, crawly critters for the Halloween season while learning about tropical plants and their connection to the animal world at the annual Creatures of the Night free event on October 28, 2026, at the Garfield Park Conservatory.

Discover the relationship between animals and plants while viewing lizards, bats, possums, skunks, birds of prey and insects up close in the conservatory’s tropical plant collection. Watch scary carnivorous plants and create eerie crafts and collect sweet treats during this all-ages activity.
Lawn games, an insect petting zoo, portraits, prizes and haikus written for guests will also be a part of the activities. An interactive presentation of animals and plants by the Natural Naturalist will highlight the ecosystems and animal behaviors that help sustain the natural environment.
Creatures of the Night offers free admission but all children must be accompanied by an adult. The program runs from 4- 7 p.m. at the Garfield Park Conservatory, 300 N. Central Park. Admission is free for Chicago residents but reservations are required.
