Free Family Day Art Institute of Chicago: Kaleidoscope Day
When: Saturday, July 22, 2017, 10:30AM-3:00PM
Where: AIC, Ryan Education Center. Use the Modern Wing entrance at 159 East Monroe Street. Tell the Ticket Counter that you are attending the Free Family Festival to receive your free general admission. You will have to wait in line to receive your free admission. This festival is highly attended so be prepared for crowds.
Join the AIC for the biggest family festival of the year – a free day of discovery, creativity, and family fun. Explore art making and activity stations designed for all ages (teens too!) led by Family Programs staff and cultural partners around the city.
Basically various Chicago cultural organizations set up themed activities related to their institution. Within the studio area of the Ryan Education center each studio will have several institutions with tables set up with crafts. As an example, in 2015 the Lurie Garden had a table where kids could make an owl puppet, the Mexican History Museum you made lucha libre masks, The Poetry Foundation offered poem making with blocks (no waiting to get onto that table!), etc. Kids (and their parents) move from table-to-table and then room-to-room. It’s pretty much a madhouse but the kids have fun.
