Bed Bath Beyond: Buy $200 Visa Gift Card Get $25 rebate.
Every month I check this page on the BBB website for deals. Here’s one: From November 24-27, 2017 buy a $200 Visa Gift Card, Get $25 rebate (limit two per household).
Most Bed Bath and Beyond stores sell Visa gift cards in denominations of $25-$200. Each Visa GC has a fee of $6.95 to buy the card. So your outlay is $206.95 for a $200 Visa gift card. But then you get a $25 Bed Bath and Beyond Gift Gift Card as a rebate so you end up with $225 in gift cards minus cost $206.95 = a profit of $18.05. Limit two per household so $36.10 of free money.
They had this offer last year (those are the rebate cards in the picture) but the rebate was a Visa gift card which is much more valuable to me since you can Visa gift cards can be used anywhere that Visa is accepted. Still if you shop at BBB this is a great deal just understand that you won’t get the BBB rebate card(s) until after Christmas.
Ideas on how to spend the $200 Visa gift card
Visa gift cards can be used anywhere Visa is accepted. I use Visa gc’s to pay for anything that I cannot get a points bonus on a credit card. Examples are car and home owners insurance, city sticker, coin laundry, Ventra card, dentist, doctor co-pays, convenience stores, Costco (I don’t have their credit card), and more. They can still be used for groceries and any regular expense you would charge. I would NOT use them to buy gas, pay for taxi’s, or anything you want the warranty protection of a credit card or the ability to dispute.
Tips and Tricks
We got to BBB when they opened on Black Friday last year and they didn’t have any $200 gift cards in stock! The next option would have been to buy two $100 gift cards. Except then we would have paid $13.90 (2x $6.95) Visa gift card fees eroding our $36 of free money by an additional $14. I got the manager to waive the second $6.95 Visa gift card fee.
I paid for each $200 Visa gift card purchase separately so I ended up with two receipts. I filed each rebate separately. The rebate gift cards showed up a month later. Voila!
BBB Rebates are easy
I’ve never had any problems with BBB rebates. You file them online rather than mailing them like in the olden days. Well you still can mail them but why would you? The key to rebates is you have to file them immediately when you get home from the store. And save all your paperwork just in case.

- Call BBB the night before to find out how many $200 Visa gift cards they have in-stock! Reference the rebate deal.
- Buy a $200 Visa gift card. Make sure you get a receipt. It should be very long and include a rebate receipt. You pay $206.95.
- Repeat step 2. Total outlay $413.90 less $50 BBB gift cards = $450 of value for $413.90 or $36.10 in profit.
- Go home and file the rebates IMMEDIATELY!!!
- Keep copies of all materials for your records until you have the rebate cards in your hands.
- Go online and check the value of the rebate cards when you get them.

This whole process sounds like a pain, but other than the time it took the manager to override the fee, it only takes about 15 minutes.
Tips on using Visa gift cards
You should register your Visa GC at the site listed on the back of the card to protect against fraud and if you use it to pay for something like car insurance when the insurer runs the card it has a zip code assigned to it. If your car insurance is $350 you can make a $200 Visa gift card payment against it and then pay the balance with some other method. Visa gift cards indicate that they are debit cards except when you pay at the register hit “Credit” so you don’t have to enter a pin number, which you won’t have.
Using up oddball amounts left of Visa gift cards
If you find yourself with oddball amounts left on your Visa gift card(s) if it is a dollar or more you can load it onto your Amazon gift card balance and apply it to your next purchase. Or you can do what is known as a “split tender” in a store like Jewel, where the register operators are trained. You will say: “Can you take 49 cents off this card?” then swipe and pay the remaining balance with your credit card.
