Chicago’s thriving Black arts community will showcase its creativity and innovation during free Black Arts Month programming all over the city, every Monday from October 9-23, 2023.
The African American Arts Alliance of Chicago will host a series of free public events that highlight Black artists from various disciplines at venues all over Chicago. The Black Arts Month Kick-Off is scheduled at the Black Ensemble Theater on October 9 from 7-9 p.m. and will feature the Red Clay Dance Company, Black Ensemble Theater Company and DJ Rae Chardonnay.
On October 21, the festivities will activate at the Retreat at Currency Exchange Cafe with the Growing Concerns Poetry Collective, Congo Square Theatre, Missed Turn Productions and Lo Williams, from 7-9 pm.
The final event will be at Muse Coffee Studio on October 23, highlighting Perceptions Theatre, Enneressa LaNette Davis, McKenzie Chin and Jamal “Litebulb” Oliver, from 7-9 pm.
All events are free with a $15 suggested donation and require advanced registration.
