Film Screening: A Fantastic Woman (2017) Thursday, June 20, 2019 (6:00PM – 8:00PM)
In celebration of Pride month and Transgender visibility, join us for a screening of the Academy Award winning film A Fantastic Woman.
Film Screening: Boy Erased (2019) Friday, June 21, 2019 (2:00PM – 4:00PM)
A young man is sent to gay conversion camp by his staunchly religious parents after a traumatic event leads him to be ‘outed.’
Radically Visible Chainmaille Armor Bracelet Saturday, June 22, 2019 (1:00PM – 4:00PM)
Learn how to make a colorful chainmaille bracelet with master chainmailler, Rebirth Garments creator, and the Tribune’s Chicagoan of the Year, Sky Cubacub. Chainmaille is a process that involves using two pairs of pliers to open and close small metal rings in different patterns called weaves.
Celebrate LGBTQ Pride Month and the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots in June at CPL. We’re hosting a variety of events that highlight the culture, heritage, contributions and achievements of folks in the LGBTQ community.
Events
A very special all ages opening event, Drag Queen Reader’s Theatre, is at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 8 at Independence Branch. Chicago drag queens will delight us with several fun and funny readings from children’s and adult literature. Reading never looked so glamorous!
Throughout Pride Month, we’ll have events for all ages, including book discussions, arts and crafts, film screenings and story times. Highlights include:

- Drag Story Times
- Film screenings showcasing LGBTQ filmmakers, actors and experiences
- Lizard Lunch: A Play by Charley Gupta
Exhibit
Chicago LGBTQ History from 1924 to the Mid-70s explores LGBTQ history and activism from Henry Gerber’s 1924 Society for Human Rights to the gay/lesbian liberation era of the mid-1970s. A partnership between CPL’s LGBTQ Pride Committee and the Gerber/Hart Library, this exhibit runs through June on the 8th floor of Harold Washington Library Center.
This exhibit will travel to other CPL locations this summer. See it at Lozano Branch in July, Austin Branch in August and Rogers Park Branch in September.
