Sit around the bonfire and toss the worries you’ve written down into the flames to kick off this free, family-friendly tradition. Valborg ushers in the new spring season with song, dance and community gathering.
The event will feature traditional Swedish songs from the Chicago Swedish Mixed Choir, fire dancing, a poetry performance by the Typewritulist Coelti and a puppet show that blends Scandinavian and American indigenous folktales called “Saving Spring,” by Gamelan Naga Biru.

Eco-friendly and sustainable resources and organizations will participate in honor of Earth Month and a variety of Anersonville businesses will supply food and artisan goods for sale, including fresh and dried bouquets from Floriography Fellows, handcrafted ceramics and jewelry from Fickle Flower Arts and a houseplant propagation swap with Green Goose Shop.
Valborg runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Chicago Waldorf School, 5200 N. Ashland. The event is free and open to all ages, but advance registration is encouraged.
