2021 update: The following info may not be correct. I haven’t been to any of these places in over a year. And I haven’t been out looking for new deals in over a year. I have deleted all the locations that have closed. I have also started going out again so I will republish this once I have more info. Thank you for your patience.

Farmer’s Fridge, 7-11, 600 N. McClurg Court. Farmer’s Fridge is a vending machine that serves healthy salads prepared fresh daily. Most ingredients are sourced locally. Salads range from $6.95 to $8.95. Protein and other add-ons around $2. Don’t be deceived by the size of the containers the salads are large. There are serving plates and utensils adjacent to the machine in wooden containers.
Gino’s East, 162 E Superior St, 312-266-3337. I’m ordinarily not a fan of deep dish pizza but theirs is good and they have a super lunch special: salad, individual pan pizza, fountain drink $7. Bypass line outside, enter, turn right and walk all the way to the wall for the lunch special counter. Ample indoor seating available. Some outdoor seating.
Indian Garden, 247 E Ontario St, 2nd floor, 312-280-4910. Lunch buffet $13.95. While researching this post I discovered that this restaurant was reviewed by Michelin in 2013. As the review mentions this place is patronized by area doctors and students because Northwestern Memorial employees and med students get a 10% discount.
L’Appetito, Moving to 251 E Huron Street Northwestern Memorial Hospital 2nd Floor Feinberg Pavilion. L’Appetito is an Italian deli. Breakfast options are under $6, lunch offers cold and grilled sandwiches, soups and salads and pizza squares. Nearly everything is under $8.
Lizzie McNeill’s, 400 N McClurg Ct, 312-467-1992. Cheap, decent pub food. Nice outdoor seating along the river.
M Burger, Arkes Family Pavilion, 676 N. St. Clair, 312-254-8500. Very good burgers, fries and shakes. There’s indoor seating for maybe 4 people if you can squeeze through the massive crowd inside. Outdoor seating is available when there’s no polar vortex. Best bet is carry out.
Northwestern Memorial Hospital Food Court/Cafeteria, Feinberg Pavilion, 251 E. Huron St., 2nd floor, 312-944-0211. There’s an outlet of the fantastic and reasonably priced Vietnamese bahn mi restaurant Saigon Sisters as well as other options.
Sayat Nova, 157 E. Ohio St., 312-644-9159. This restaurant has been there forever or per their website since 1969. Armenian food such as kabobs, baba ghannouj, couscous, etc. $10.95 lunch special. Most dinner entrees are under $20.
Treasure Island, 680 N. Lake Shore Drive (entrance on all sides of the building), 312-664-0400. Way in the back of the building closest to Lake Shore Drive is the TI Grocery store. Monday through Friday they have a very good breakfast, lunch and dinner spread with hot and cold items, a salad bar, deli and more. They have a small indoor seating area. Or you can walk two blocks north on Lake Shore Drive to the Chicago Avenue underpass and eat along the lakefront path.
Tre Soldi,212 East Ohio, 312-664-0212, Solid trattoria fare, from the Coco Pazzo group, at very reasonable prices.
West Egg 620 N Fairbanks Ct, 312-280-8366. Good breakfast and lunch place.
Whole Foods Streeterville, 255 E. Grand, (312) 379-7900. Recently opened they have focaccia squares $3.50, pizza by the slice $5, a ramen bar $10 for a huge bowl and the usual salad, hot and cold bar options.
Volare, 201 E. Grand 312-410-9900. Good old fashioned Italian at reasonable prices.
Yolk 355 E Ohio St, 312-822-9655, Good breakfast and lunch place. $12-$14 plate, large portions. Unless you get there at 7a on the weekend it can be a very long wait.
