The exuberant seven-day African American tradition of Kwanzaa will be celebrated with eight hours of free music, dance, workshops and presentations by Chi-Village in the Roseland community on December 26, 2024.
The second annual Chi-Village Kwanzaa Celebration weaves the past and present while honoring ancestral legacies. The event will feature dance classes, including samba, soca and footwork, craft stations including nail design and screen printing, a wellness area, a fashion show and more.
Kwanzaa commemorates African traditions within African American culture with a seven-day celebration from December 26-31, that focuses on the seven principles of the holiday, known as Nguzo Saba. The principles use Swahili words for unity (umoja,) self-determination (kujichagulia) collective work and responsibility (ujima), cooperative economics (ujamaa), purpose (nia), creativity (kuumba) and faith (imani).
The celebration kicks off from 1-9 pm at the Conrad Worrill Track & Field Center and is free for all. Guests who register in advance will receive a free gift.
