Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a visit to the Latine cultural event that showcases the Lowrider movement at the 13th annual Slow & Low: Chicago Lowrider Festival on October 12, 2024, at Navy Pier.
At the festival, you can view more than 250 elaborately customized cars, as well as more than 60 unusually modified motorcycles and bicycles. The expertly curated collection highlights the distinctive artistic and mechanical characteristics of Lowrider cars.
Customized to sit low to the ground and cruise slowly to showcase the artistry of the designs, Lowriders often feature bright lacquered paint jobs, velvet upholstery, airbrushed murals, custom pinstriping and chain steering wheels.
Lowrider culture dates back to the 1940s, in urban communities, with Southern California as the epicenter. The Chicago Lowrider Festival will host a program of local DJs, live musical performances, folkloric dancers and a children’s play area.
The immersive experience hosts artist pop-ups including floral installations, large textile cultures, photo booth wall decals and a miniature car collection. A vendor market with Black and Brown makers and models who will pose with attendees round out the fest.
The Chicago Lowrider Festival runs from 10 am-8 pm and tickets are $15, $52 for a family/group of 4. Tickets are available at the door but advance purchase is recommended.
