2022 UPDATE: We are sorry to report that the Urban Outfitters Surplus Store in Chicago has permanently closed.
Chicago was the home of the only Urban Outfitters Surplus Store in the country. Every day, Urban Outfitters store managers pulled unsold merchandise off the floor, put it in a box, and sent it to 2352 N. Clark Street (between Belden and Fullerton) in Lincoln Park.
The surplus store had a great selection of men’s and women’s clothes, shoes, and accessories. When I went, there was a huge selection of iPad covers, letterman’s jackets, and ballet flats. It was all the fun stuff that Urban Outfitters is known for at low prices: $9.99 for t-shirts, $19.99 for jeans, $49.99 for wool and leather jackets. Just how good is it? Look at the tag on the Ramones poster I bought:Where: Urban Outfitters Surplus Store, 2352 N. Clark Chicago, (773) 549-1711
Also the Surplus Store generally had sales at the same time that regular Urban Outfitters had sales. So when you got an email about a sale (from Urban Outfitters) you could check with the Surplus Store to see if they were having a sale. If you liked their merchandise this is the type of store you wanted to stop in anytime you were in the area.
