How to listen to free Chicago Police Scanner app
As crime increases in the downtown area I recommend the use of a scanner app during melees, wildings, lootings, and riots to find out what is going on and to get around safely. The City of Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management notification system does not notify residents of melees, wildings, lootings, and riots, etc. so we are left to our own devices to find out what is going on.
Mainstream media downplays dangerous events or doesn’t report them at all
Many of these dangerous events are not reported at all or downplayed by the mainstream media. So in the event there is an emergency you can listen to the scanner app to get real time information about what is going on. I use Broadcastify. During the riot on May 30, since I was on lockdown, I listened to make sure nothing was headed my way. During ordinary times I use the scanner app every time there is a wilding or other melee downtown so I can navigate my way around the mobs to get home safely. You can also listen to scanners online here.
What district and zone are you in?
The Chicago Police Department divides the City into 23 districts, 1-25; there are no 13th or 21st districts. Those were combined into other districts. The Chicago Police Department further combines multiple districts into Zones. Each Zone has it’s own scanner channel. So first Find my district and then find your zone below.

Broadcastify is good source of City emergency information
As I mentioned earlier The City of Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management notification system does not notify residents of melees, wildings, lootings, and riots, etc. so we are left to our own devices to find out what is going on. Many of these events are not reported at all or downplayed by the mainstream media. So in the event there is an emergency you can go to the scanner app to get real time information about what is going on.
