Chicago Stores with Senior hours Updated
Several retailers have created dedicated shopping hours for seniors to shop for groceries without being trampled by the hoards. A friend who is a senior said that these hours are often very crowded with little social distancing – just like regular shopping hours. I haven’t updated this post since May 2020. I would recommend calling your store to see if they still offer senior hours. The few stores I checked aren’t showing anything on their websites so calling seems to be the logical option.
This website from the Illinois Retail Merchants Association may be more up to date but it doesn’t show the last time it was updated.

Mariano’s does not honor the senior hours. At 7:00am, the store had about 2 seniors and everyone else were Millennials.

In the burbs and the shelves are bare at a lot of the stores.

Unfortunately you’ll have to keep going back to find items. Look around on the displays in the middle of the aisles. I saw boxes of canned beans stacked up in the middle of the aisle while the shelves were bare. Good luck.

That’s unfortunate. What I posted was on their website. It’s still best to go as soon as the store opens because most stores are restocking at night into the early AM. Good luck.
