Free Chinese New Year events Chicago. Chicago will celebrate Chinese New Year throughout the city with a variety of special events, programs and performances. This year is The Year of the Dog 4716.
Free Family Event at the Art Institute
When: March 3, 2018, Drop in 1:00–5:00
Where: Ryan Learning Center Enter through the Modern Wing entrance at 159 East Monroe Street in order to avoid paying museum admission. You will NOT have access to any area of the Museum except the Ryan Education Center without paying admission. More info here.
Bring the Chinese New Year to a close with lantern making, storytelling, and art exploration. Then at 5pm, take your newly designed lantern and join in a Lion Dance-led lantern procession across the pedestrian bridge from Millennium Park to Maggie Daley Park with performances on the skating ribbon and in the Fieldhouse.

Free Lion Dance Lantern Parade to Maggie Daley Park

Where: Millennium Park bridge to Maggie Daley Park
Join in a Lion Dance-led lantern procession across the Amoco pedestrian bridge from Millennium Park to Maggie Daley Park, where performances will be featured on the skating ribbon and in the Fieldhouse.
