Convert coins to Amazon gift cards for free $5 limited time bonus.
Since banks won’t take coins anymore and I and refuse to carry them around I have a big irritating bowl of unused money sitting around. Now there is a solution. I brought all my coins to a neighborhood store a couple months ago.

Convert your coins for free with Coinstar
We’ve all seen the Coinstar kiosks in the grocery store but I never used it because I assumed there was a fee. And there is – if you convert your coins to cash they take 11.9%! Now I’ve discovered that you can use Coinstar to convert your coins into third party gift cards without a fee so you get 100% of the value of your coins!
How it works
I looked up a location using the website. Once you pick a location scroll down and click on “Details” to see what gift cards are available. All of the locations downtown are at either Jewel or CVS. I schlepped them over to the closest Jewel, followed the prompts on the screen, dumped (you’ll have to push the coins through) and got an Amazon eCertificate. You can load the eCertificate code into your Amazon account for future use. Voila! The whole procedure took about two minutes.
Beware of minimum values
The trick is that you must meet a minimum value to get the gift card. If not, you’ll be stuck accepting cash and paying the 11.9% fee. The minimum for Amazon is $5. I wasn’t about to count my coins so incredibly I went to the service desk and got $4 in quarters just to be safe. My coin total came to a whopping $8.12. Yeah nasty coins gone!
