$1 Nest thermostat from ComEd
ComEd is offering a Nest thermostat for $1 after instant rebate plus $10.25 for sales tax. My thermostat crapped out the last day of the last time it was really cold. I saw this offer long ago and was hoping it would come back before I need to run my AC. I certainly wasn’t going to pay retail! And voila the ComEd email hit my inbox a couple days ago. I have no idea how long this deal will last. The terms and conditions say: Smart thermostats must be purchased, installed and registered with the manufacturer by December 31, 2021.
Also in the terms and conditions: ComEd reserves the right to inspect all rebated products to verify compliance with program rules and the accuracy of project documentation. This may include post-installation inspections or participant interviews. Upon reasonable notice by ComEd, the customer must allow access to project documents and the installed product for a period of one year after receipt of rebate payment by ComEd.
They’re not messing around!
In order to get this deal you are required to login to your ComEd account and to check boxes swearing that you will be installing this into your home that is serviced by ComEd. Limit one rebate per household.
$1 Nest thermostat from ComEd
There are two Nest offers. The basic (regularly $129.99) is on sale for $99.99 less an instant rebate of $98.99 plus $10.25 sales tax for a total cost $11.25. The Learning Thermostat is $249.99 less $98.99 rebate plus sales tax. I honestly didn’t do any research because I’m not going to find a programmable thermostat anywhere for less than $11.25 and I don’t need to pay $161 for it to learn my usage. The most common setting for my thermostat is OFF. You can compare the different features here.
5/3/21 Update: The website said it would take 2-6 days for orders to ship. Due to extremely high demand mine took 17 days to ship.
You need to make sure your system is compatible with Nest. ComEd has instructions on how to figure it out which involves opening up your existing thermostat and looking at the wiring.
I emailed a union electrician friend and he said it would be fine because he knows my building. He will be installing it.
Supposedly they’re simple enough that anyone can install them. Please check with an electrician prior to purchase. There is no point in buying a discount $11 thermostat and then paying $500 to install it.
Search for nationwide thermostat deals. Ameren Illinois also has a deal. Enjoy your cheap thermostat!
