Donating items during Coronavirus. I was speaking to a friend with a large house who is doing a big clear out and was wondering if there was anywhere to drop anything off. Unfortunately the answer is no. I read somewhere a while ago that people were dumping their stuff outside of closed Goodwill and Salvation Army locations and the charities just throw everything away either because it’s been exposed to the elements or it may be contaminated.
Keep clearing out!
Keep clearing out. This is a temporary situation so don’t slow down or use this as an excuse to procrastinate. There will be huge need once the lockdown is lifted. If you have a house, garage or car just put the items in bags or boxes and store them until charities reopen. If you’re in a small apartment or condo just fill boxes and stack them up. Just label the box where you want them to go.

Throw it away
Just toss it. Now is probably the only time you’ll have to really clear out and get organized. Just check all the donation websites. There are many things they do not accept. Don’t donate your used undergarments, t-shirts, worn out clothing, broken items, VHS tapes and many other things. Charities have to spend money disposing of our junk in dumpsters. If you’re in the burbs acquire stickers from your town in order to dispose of extra items. Try to recycle what you can according to your local rules but otherwise toss it.
SPECIAL NOTE: At the current time, more than 94 percent of Goodwill stores are closed. To see if your local Goodwill is accepting donations or for more information about store re-openings, please select the “Headquarters” option from the Filter on the Locator to contact your local Goodwill.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, many locations have suspended pickups. And only select locations are accepting drop-offs. Please hang on to your donations – we hope to resume full services as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time. Check your area and sign up for email or text notification when they start accepting donations.
