ORT, The Organization for Rehabilitation through Training, raises money through two thrift shops, one in Highland Park and one in Evanston. I recently visited the Evanston store. Talk about variety! The store had a little bit of everything, it seemed: evening gowns, everyday clothes, books, housewares, and toys. Despite the mix, everything is organized enough that shopping is a thrill, not a headache.
It has some furniture, and the manager told me that he will be adding more – all of which will be carefully inspected before going on to the sales floor.
Because ORT Resale has a good inventory and a strong donor base, the merchandise turns over. You aren’t likely to see the same items on two different visits. and that’s good.
