One of Chicago’s most iconic experiences is sailing on the scenic Chicago Architecture Center (CAC) River Cruise aboard First Lady and absorbing the city’s stunning skyline while learning about its design history. The fun continues through the fall, with cruises floating along the shore through November 23, 2025.

Voted the number one boat tour in North America for two years straight, the CAC River Cruise offers great vistas, fascinating history, with the added allure of autumn foliage accenting the architectural beauty. The temperatures tend to be pleasant through October so the water breezes still feel refreshing. By November, a blanket and a hot drink make for a cozy, memorable ride. The First Lady also supplies indoor, climate-controlled seating if it gets too chilly.

The CAC Cruise is the most popular but visitors can also choose the Sightseeing River & Lake Cruise, which glides along the Chicago River and Lake Michigan while guides tell entertaining stories about Chicago history. For a more dramatic trip, opt for the Chicago By Night River & Lake cruise, when the vistas glow with glittering lights and the fall evenings provide a crisp environment.
To celebrate the spooky season, dare to hop aboard the Creepy Cruise, which focuses on chilling tales of Chicago’s haunted buildings, ghosts and unsolved mysteries against the dim glow of twilight. Pet parents can also choose the Howl-O-Ween Canine Cruise, for a doggie costume contest, pumpkin dog treats and photo ops with the river as backdrop, during the first two weekends of October.
A non-themed Canine Cruise is available through October for a combo of architecture and furry fun. General tickets start at $64.40 for the CAC cruise and $45 for the other cruises. Boat times are available for morning through evening but advance tickets are recommended because these popular cruises sell out quickly.
The entrance for the First Lady is located on the Northwest corner of Michigan Avenue and Upper Wacker Drive, right at the end of the Michigan Avenue bridge and across from the Chicago Architecture Center. Look for the black awning. The dock is below on the Chicago Riverwalk.
