Just when you thought there couldn’t be more things to celebrate about Chicago, here’s another one: National Donut Day was started here in Chicago, in 1938. That’s right, the day was created in Chicago as a tribute to the Salvation Army “Doughnut Lassies” who supported American troops on the front lines during WWI. Today, National Donut Day is celebrated on the first Friday in June, every year.
