Experience the joys of dance by choreographer and Guggenheim fellow Nejla Yatkin in Chicago parks throughout the city. Yatkin will supply mesmerizing Firebird dances with live music, starting on June 8, 2023.
For four weeks, Yatkin will perform 16 dance meditations that reflect the relationship between people and their surroundings. The mythical firebird symbolized the connection between the Earth and the sky.
Before each pop-up performance, Yatkin will lead free, family-friendly workshops at four cultural centers: Indian Boundary Park, Lincoln Park Cultural Center, Ford Calumet Environmental Center and Berger Mansion.
The Pop up dance performances will be featured in parks all over the city, including Humboldt Park, Jessee Owens Park, West Ridge Park, Maggie Daley Park and Promontory Point. Check out the map of the park locations for the performances here.
The dance pop-ups will run through July 8, 2023, including evening and daytime performances. Review the full schedule here.
