The Obama Presidential Center has drawn visitors from all over the world who want to discover the history and legacy of the country’s first Black President. The museum and its interactive exhibits capture a lot of attention but the campus also hosts free events open to the public. Consider free concerts, movies, karaoke sessions and garden workshops all summer long.

Garden Gatherings
Spend an afternoon in the Obama Center Fruit & Vegetable Garden and learn about plant flavors and medicinal properties while grooving to sounds from DJ Cash Era. Discover how to make different teas, tinctures and dishes using plants. Garden Gatherings are free but require registration in advance

Sun-Drenched Harmonies- July 26, 2026, 1 pm
Explore the flavors and blends of different plants and learn how to make sun tea and scent rollers in this hand-on workshop.
The Pollinator Groove-August 9, 2026, 1 pm
Examine the world of plant pollinators and learn how to build a bee hotel and taste local honey and edible petals.
The Presentation Waltz-August 23, 2026, 1 pm
Learn about the types of food preservation, from canning to pickling.
Movies and Music in John Lewis Plaza
Unwind in the grass in John Lewis Plaza and take in a free movie or concert. These events don’t require tickets or registration, so just show up with a blanket and snacks and enjoy. Space is limited and first come, first served so arrive early.
