When: Saturday, November 28, 2015
By shopping or dining at small businesses throughout the year, you’re supporting all the small businesses that make your neighborhood unique and improve the quality of life in my neighborhood.
SUMMARY: How to make $30 per American Express card on Small Business Saturday
On Saturday, November 28th only, when you use your registered Amex card to make a qualifying purchase of $10 or more with a participating merchant you will receive a $10 statement credit from Amex. You may use each card to make 3 separate purchases of $10 or more. Last year received $150 FREE.
HOW IT WORKS:
1. Register each card you plan to use
You must register, separately, each Amex card you plan to use that day. Registration opens November 14th at 12:00 A.M. MST , and will continue until 11:59 P.M. MST on Nov 28, 2015. Registration is limited so if you plan to participate register each card as soon as possible before it reaches capacity. Here are all offer terms.
There are five channels where you can register:
- Complete the registration form at ShopSmall.com
- Log in to your account at americanexpress.com and click on the “Amex Offers” tab or “Small Business Saturday” offer tab in “Amex Offers & Benefits” See this prior post to maximize your “Amex Offers” registration.
- Log in to the American Express App and visiting the “Offers For You” tab in the “Membership” section
- Add the offer directly to your connected Card via amex.co/facebook
- Tweet #AmexShopSmall to add the offer directly to your connected Card
See this post on how to connect your Amex cards via Twitter and Facebook.
2. Make Purchases at Participating Businesses
You must make purchases at businesses that are participating in the event. You can find them on the Shop Small Map . Note that Amex doesn’t guarantee the map’s accuracy. You may want to call or email your favorite small businesses and ask if they are participating or check the next time you stop by. Some merchants will put up signs and stickers on their doors indicating they are participating.
3. Make Qualifying Purchases
You can make 3 $10 purchases per card this year so you can potentially earn $30 per card.
Per Amex: “For example, if your transaction is only for $5, you will not receive a credit. Multiple transactions of less than $10 will not qualify even if the combined total of those transactions is over $10. You may purchase multiple items that together equal $10 or more, but you must purchase them in a single transaction to receive the statement credit. Online transactions do not qualify.”
So for example let’s say you have three Amex cards. You can make a $10 or greater purchase from three different vendors per card. So at “Vendor A” make a $10 or greater purchase with each of your three cards. Repeat the process at two more vendors so you have charged $30 per card. Total savings: $90.
If you can’t purchase merchandise or services for $10 or more on November 28 you can purchase gift cards for later use. You might want to confirm beforehand that the vendors sell gift cards.
Any personal and small business card issued by American Express is eligible including authorized user cards. Corporate and prepaid cards (excluding American Express Serve cards and American Express Bluebird) are not eligible.
There will be several Small Business Saturday Events around the city showcasing and selling unique and locally made arts, crafts and fashions.
I’ll be venturing out to several places I’ve been meaning to check out so it’s really an all-day affair of helping small businesses and getting free stuff!
