The Dump, a new discount furniture store in Lombard, is holding its official grand opening this weekend. It is the 11th store in a chain that started out as a clearance outlet for Haynes Furniture stores in Norfolk, VA. The people at Haynes saw the potential to buy different closeouts, so they expanded the outlet into its own chain.
“We buy deals from all the brand-name manufacturers,” says E.J. Strelitz, president of Haynes Furniture. One of the best sources of furniture is for The Dump is the High Point Market, where furniture companies show their latest designs and prototypes. These floor models are cleared out in time for the manufacturers to stock for new shows, and The Dump is a major buyer.
The opening sale is expected to have sample sale items from Calvin Klein, Natuzzi Italia, Sherrill Furniture, and Old Hickory Furniture, among others. And, The Dump is giving out free t-shirts with any purchase during the opening.
Everything for sale is either brand new or a floor model; the inventory includes furniture, accessories, rugs, and mattresses. “It’s all first quality, all under manufacturer’s warranty,” Strelitz says.
Strelitz says that running The Dump is a lot of fun. “We’re merchants, and we love finding great deals,” he says.
There are two unusual features of The Dump to know. The first is that new merchandise comes in all the time, so you never know what you will find. The second is that the store is open only on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If Monday is a holiday, the store may be open then, too.
