Low-cost car seats at Stroger Hospital. Program suspended until further notice.
Car seats aren’t cheap, but they are necessary. They keep kids safe, and that’s a good thing. To make it easier for more people to have the right-size car seats, Stroger Hospital sells infant, convertible, and booster seats for $30 to $40 each. Cash only.
The car-seat program operates from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Go to the Pediatric Waiting Area of the Emergency Room. Cash only, no refunds or returns. Call ahead to confirm they are available on the day you intend to go Call 312-864-2016.
You will have to watch a short video about car seat installation (about 20 minutes) before you receive your seat.

Car seat check
The following may offer car seat installation checks. Some are free and some charge a fee.
Chicago Fire Department, Public Education Office 312-747-6691. I called several times and no answer. Still researching.
Secretary of State 866-247-0213. Listen to recording press 1 and leave message.
Chicago Police Department– call 311 or call your local district.
Many suburban fire and police departments also have technicians. Call the one nearest you to ask if they offer car seat checks.
