Restaurants and chefs will offer their best recipes for the rich sauce served over enchiladas or meats to compete for the prestigious title of Mole Master. Local musicians will perform live in a packed lineup all weekend. A marketplace with art, local vendors and crafts and lucha libre wrestling will also add to the festivities.
A Children’s Zone will present games, arts and crafts and interactive activities for the kids. The three-day fest will unfold with live performers on 18th Street, between Blue Island and Ashland, from 5 to 10 pm on May 24, noon to 10 pm on May 25 and noon to 9 pm on May 26. Admission is free but a $5 donation is suggested.
Sample these classic varieties of mole dishes:
- Mole Poblano: A classic mole originating in Puebla, Mexico, featuring a rich, dark sauce typically served over chicken.
- Mole Coloradito: Noted for its red color and slightly sweet undertones, this mole pairs well with pork or rice.
- Mole Oaxaqueño: Created in the culturally rich Oaxaca state, this smoky and complex mole is a must-try for adventurous foodies.
