Sistine Chapel Exhibit Oakbrook
When: May 19, 2021 to August 15, 2021 Wednesdays, Thursdays, Sundays: 11am–7pm; Fridays & Saturdays: 11am–8pm
Where: Oakbrook Center, 2120 Oakbrook Center, Oak Brook, IL 630-686-3444
This is a exhibit of high-definition photos specially printed that feature life-sized, exact replicas of the ceiling frescoes of the Sistine Chapel. It’s pretty cool. You’ll never see these images this close. Before you start looking at the images there’s a short film about the exhibit. It’s way less expensive than the Van Gogh exhibit ($22+ v. $50+). I haven’t been able to find a way to get a discount except for Senior (65+), Student, Military (must present valid ID). Slots are available every 30 minutes. It should take 60-90 to get through the exhibit if you read everything. I went on a Friday at 12:30PM and it wasn’t crowded. Audio guides are $4.
Michelangelo Sistine Chapel Exhibit Oakbrook – Getting there
You can also take the Metra to Elmhurst and catch the Pace bus 322 to the Mall. It take about an hour and 45 minutes from downtown. If you’re taking public transit the bus drops you off at Macy’s. The exhibit is one level below LL Bean. Go to LL Bean and at the end is a staircase. Take that down and turn right. If you’re driving go toward Life Time fitness. The exhibit is across from there.
Oakbrook Center has decent restaurants including The Table at Crate and Barrell as well as a number of Lettuce Entertain You restaurants (Join LEYE Frequent Diner Club and get $10) such as a Mon Ami Gabi and Antico Pasta. Both good. More info here
