The music, dance, art and food of Puerto Rico will be on vivid display during the Puerto Rican Fest. With the iconic Puerto Rican flag sculptures as the backdrop, Division Street at Mozart will come alive with live salsa, reggaeton, and bomba music and artists will create installations and artwork.
The Puerto Rican People’s Day Parade will kick off on June 13, followed by music, carnival rides, games and dances. Restaurant vendors will sell traditional Puerto Rican dishes like bacalo (salted codfish), jibaritos ( sandwiches made with fried plantains) and empanadillas (fried beef turnovers).
A tropical drink stand, including the pina colada (the cocktail was invented in Puerto Rico), will serve up fruity beverages. There will also be food trucks and artisans selling their goods. This year’s fest features a talent show, a salsa showcase and a Bad Bunny look-alike contest. The festival runs from 3-10 pm on June 11 and 12 and noon to 10 pm on June 13 and 14. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate.
