The Lincoln Park neighborhood is just north of downtown and full of lots of great free things to do. At one time, it was ground zero for Chicago’s yuppies. That’s less the case than it used to be, but as the home of both DePaul University and some gorgeous old apartments, you’ll see a great mix of ages and interests as you walk around.
Among the free and cheap sites are:
- Get a beauty school haircut. The Douglas J Aveda and Sine Qua Non schools both offer discounted services when they are provided by students.
- Chicago Getaway Hostel, if you are an out-of-town visitor looking for an interesting and inexpensive place to stay.
- Biograph Theatre: at 2433 N. Lincoln, this is where John Dillinger was shot. It is now where the Victory Gardens Theater and visiting groups perform; check out our half-price tickets page if you are interested in seeing a show there.
- Bar specials: find a bar with specials in Lincoln Park is a piece of cake. One especial favorite is Cafe Ba Ba Reeba.
