Chicago Public Library Citywide Sunday Discovery
Join the Chicago Public Library every other Sunday as they take a look at different STEAM themes and topics and see what you can learn and discover about the world around us. This program is for kids 7 and up and their caregivers.
How to Attend
This event takes place on Zoom. Register at least 24 hours before the event. Only one registration per household is needed. You’ll receive an email with a link to the secure Zoom meeting about 24 hours before the meeting. By registering for this event, you agree to abide by the Library Use Guidelines.

How do astronauts land safely on the moon? Design a shock-absorbing landing device for two intrepid space explorers in this engineering challenge!
Materials to gather ahead of time (but you are welcome to join us without all the materials):
- two marshmallows (or two other small, lightweight objects) to stand in for astronauts
- a plastic/paper cup
- craft supplies you might have around the house, such as:
- cardboard
- paper
- paper plates
- paper clips
- popsicle sticks
- tape
- stapler
- markers/colored pencils
- rubber bands
- cotton balls
- scissors, etc.
For kids 7 and up and their caregivers.

How do engineers design buildings that stay safe during an earthquake? Design and build an earthquake-resistant house in this engineering challenge!
Materials to gather ahead of time (but you are welcome to join in without the materials):
- a pack of markers, colored pencils, or other cylindrical objects of the same size
- a tray or large flat piece of cardboard
- craft supplies you might have around the house, such as:
- cardboard
- paper
- paper plates
- paper clips
- popsicle sticks
- tape
- stapler
- markers/colored pencils
- rubber bands
- cotton balls
- scissors, etc.
