Celebrate the breadth and depth of the art of writing at the third annual American Writers Festival on June 6-7, 2026, at the American Writers Museum and the Harold Washington Library Center. The weekend of free programming will feature more than 90 writers.

Sponsored by the American Writers Museum and Chicago Public Library, the free festival offers book signings, writing workshops, literary arts & crafts and photo ops for all ages. Over 40 programs will highlight literary stars like Pulitzer Prize winner Daniel Kraus (Angel Down), American Book Award winner Tananarive Due (The Reformatory) and Chicago Poet Laureate Mayda del Valle.
The festival line-up includes topics like “The Book of Red Flags, “A Nation Wrestles with God,” “Word is Bond: Hip Hop Journalism,” ” Comedy & Memoir,” and “Brooks Days 2026: Gen Z Celebrates Gwendolyn Brooks.” Check out the festival schedule here.
The American Writers Festival runs on June 6 from 10- 5 pm at the American Writers Museum, 180 N. Michigan, and on June 7 from 10- 5 pm at the Harold Washington Library, 400 S. State St. The event also includes free admission to the American Writers Museum on June 6.
