Ten dance companies will take the stage at Millennium Park’s Pritzker Pavilion to celebrate spiritual and mystical traditions of Black culture with the Chicago Black Dance Legacy Project’s new show, “Divination: The Dancing Souls of Black Folk,” on August 24, 2024.
Highlighting the divine ways of ancestral communication, the show will feature ballet, jazz, contemporary and African dance and a special collaboration between M.A.D.D Rhythms tap dancers and Era Footwork Collective.
The world premiere of “It Is Written,” set to the music of Earth, Wind and Fire will showcase dancers from the broader Chicago community and Joel Hall Dancers will perform the intergenerational piece, “Usher,” about transferring wisdom from elders to juniors.
The companies that will participate in the show include Praize Productions, Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, Muntu Dance Theatre, Chicago Multi-cultural Dance Center & Hiplet Ballerinas, Nawja Dance Corps and more.
The dance performance opens at 5:45 pm at the Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park on August 24, 2024. Admission is free but reservations are requested here.
