On Illinois Free Days, Museum Entry is free for all Illinois residents who show valid proof of residency.
No further Chicago residency discounts apply on Illinois Free Days. Limited to six children (under 18) admitted per one accompanying adult. (See chaperone ratios and policies for School-led Field Trips and Groups of 15+.) Giant Dome Theater films, Coal Mine and optional U-505 onboard tours, and certain temporary exhibits are not included in Museum Entry, and require separate admission. Museum of Science and Industry 2021 free days – Review food options for your visit
The museum allows you to bring in your own food. Designated seating areas:
South Portico Tent behind Coal Mine, Main Level
Designated eating area outside Ships Gallery, Ground Level
Lower Court, Ground Level near escalators
MSI also offers indoor garage parking to escape the cold. You can also take the #10 bus from downtown during the summer only.

CTA 6 bus and Metra Electric
You can take the CTA 6 bus or Metra Electric to the 55-56-57th Street stop and walk a few blocks to the Museum. Currently (July 2021) the Metra Electric costs the same as the CTA bus $2.00 each way.
CTA #10 bus. I only go to the MSI when the 10 bus is running from Memorial Day thru Labor Day. It drops you off and picks you up at the door. Service from North Michigan Avenue to Museum of Science & Industry via express, from Memorial Day thru Labor Day, only.
