On Illinois Free Days, Museum Entry is free for all Illinois residents who show valid proof of residency.
No further Chicago residency discounts apply on Illinois Free Days. Limited to six children (under 18) admitted per one accompanying adult. (See chaperone ratios and policies for School-led Field Trips and Groups of 15+.) Giant Dome Theater films, Coal Mine and optional U-505 onboard tours, and certain temporary exhibits are not included in Museum Entry, and require separate admission. Museum of Science and Industry 2021 free days – Whats open and closed
Many exhibits have been modified or adapted to create physical distancing, including reduced capacity in the Giant Dome Theater. Tours inside Coal Mine and on-board the U-505 submarine are suspended. The U-505 Submarine exhibit is open. The Idea Factory and Future Energy Chicago exhibits are closed.
All Museum guests must reserve timed-entry tickets to enter. Book your tickets in advance to reserve your preferred date and time with fast and contact-less admission when you arrive.
Museum of Science and Industry 2021 free days – Review food options for your visit
Our Brain Food Court is open with salads, sandwiches and coffee beverages. Snacks and beverages from Lower Level vending machines can be enjoyed in the nearby designated eating area outside Ships Gallery. Face coverings may only be removed while actively eating when seated in designated areas, and for momentary drinking from water bottles elsewhere.
MSI also offers indoor garage parking to escape the cold.You can also take the #10 bus from downtown during the summer only.
CTA #10 bus. I only go to the MSI when the 10 bus is running from Memorial Day thru Labor Day. It drops you off and picks you up at the door. Service from North Michigan Avenue to Museum of Science & Industry via express, from Memorial Day thru Labor Day, only.
