What are Fathom Events?
Fathom Events are special screenings at AMC, Cinemark and Regal Theaters. Fathom Events offers limited showings of “TCM Big Screen Classics” (such as the 75th Anniversary screening of Casablanca.) and live events (such as Metropolitan Opera performances) as well as other events. The TCM Big Screen Classics and Met Opera performance screenings are during non-peak times usually on Sundays and Wednesdays. Scroll down for 2021 screenings.
Fathom events is co-owned by Fathom Events, AMC Entertainment, Cinemark Holdings, and Regal Entertainment Group.
Discount tickets to Fathom Events – Pre-covid
All of the following methods to get a discount applied pre-covid. I would say all bets are off currently as theaters have been devastated financially. If you click through to buy tickets online they are $16.80 through Atomic Tickets so you can’t use theater chain gift cards. You may still be able to use passes at the box office but I haven’t been to the movies yet so I haven’t tested it.
Use AMC discount Yellow passes for movies Save 3.6% or more
TCM Big Screen Classic tickets retail for $14 including tax at the box office at my local AMC. You can get AMC Yellow passes for $8.99 at Sam’s Club (Get $20 off membership here), for $9.75 here or at Costco. You can get them for $8.50 direct from AMC. Use AMC discount Black passes for movies Save up to 23%
TCM Big Screen Classic tickets retail for $14 including tax at the box office at my local AMC. You can get AMC Black passes for $10.74 each (two for $21.48) at Sam’s Club (Get $20 off Sam’s Club membership here), occasionally through Coke Rewards and at Costco. However there is a catch – Sometimes the AMC passes work and sometimes they don’t
At the Box Office I’ve been told the pass doesn’t work at all. Or that the pass works but I was charged an additional $4-$5 and recently I was able to use a Yellow pass to purchase a ticket for a TCM Big Screen Classic. This is no fault of the Box Office employees. They are not properly trained.
SOLUTION
My advice when using an AMC Yellow or Black pass to get into a TCM Big Screen Classic/Fathom Event is to go to the Box Office and try and use it for no extra charge. That is they should sell you the ticket in exchange for the pass. If this does not work nicely ask if there is a manager available. At my AMC the manager is located upstairs at the Service Desk. The manager should be able to process the AMC ticket with the pass only. I did this in February and it worked.
Regal and Cinemark passes
Fathom events also screen at Regal Webster Place 11 1471 W. Webster Avenue and Regal City North Stadium 14 2600 N. Western Avenue. I do not know which passes, if any, work at Regal Cinemas. I’ve contacted Fathom Events multiple times and received no response. You can get Regal Cinema passes at Sam’s Club (Get $20 off membership here) or at Costco. Save money on Movie Tickets.
No passes for more expensive events
Tickets for live performances such as the Met Opera are around $27. Fathom does not accept any AMC passes and presumably any other passes.
