4/23/2021 Update: Everyone in Chicago and Illinois age 16 and older is eligible for the vaccine. City-run vaccination sites (United Center, Chicago State University and Gallagher Way/Wrigley) are allowing a limited number of walk-ins. Walgreens, CVS, etc. are not City-run and still require appointments.
Personally I would make an appointment, even at City-run sites, so I don’t have to stand in line or get turned away. To get appointments at the United Center, Chicago State University and Gallagher Way/Wrigley go to ZocDoc. There have been appointments available when I’ve spot checked over the last few days. Vaccine appointments were readily available at downtown Walgreens when I spot checked several times over the last few days.
Appointments have been available sporadically at Cook County Department of Public Health sites in the suburbs. The Matteson and Tinley Park locations are allowing a limited number of walk-ins.
Indiana has had appointments for weeks
You’re probably more likely to get hit by lightning or be killed by a terrorist than to get a vaccine appointment anytime soon in Illinois!
This is what we’re facing in Illinois when trying to book a vaccine appointment. Why not consider a road trip to Indiana! Sadly even the Chicago Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady has suggested we hit the road!

On March 31, 2021, Indiana opened vaccine eligibility to any person age 16 and up, including Illinois residents.
An Indiana friend who’s a nurse told me Friday that there are probably appointments available all over the northwest Indiana suburbs. She’s absolutely correct although not all locations have appointments available immediately. Of course you’ll need a car to get there and you’ll have to go twice since the likelihood of getting a second appointment in Illinois for the correct vaccine is probably slim to none. While you’re there fill your tank and buy groceries and booze on the cheap. Not only are their prices lower but their sales tax is lower too! Tolls on the Skyway are $5.80 each way. How to get an appointment in Indiana

You’ll have to enter an Indiana zip code to schedule an appointment online or to break out of the automated phone system. I called and you can get a human on the phone in a few minutes. I’ve listed all the zip codes that have sites below as well as some of the sites that have appointments. Some of the hospitals are listed but are by Invitation only. These results are as of April 10 around 4PM. YMMV!
