The weather is still warm enough to enjoy outdoor adventures, so check out these free or cheap fall events.
Just because the temps have dropped doesn’t mean you still can’t enjoy the iconic Chicago Architecture Cruise. Float along the river and take in the autumn views from climate controlled cabins.
Roam through the zoo transformed with a pumpkin patch, stilt walkers, a corn maze, live chalk art and photo ops. The Lincoln Park Zoo is always free and this popular fest adds to low-cost fun.

If you don’t bite into crisp apples during the fall, are you even in the Midwest? Savor all the varieties and flavors of the fruit with apple-themed dishes, drinks and snacks. Live music and an adorable Pooch Costume Contest top off this two-day event.
Dance to two stages of music while sipping beer and cider, munching sausages, and soaking up the festive vibes. This street party offers German Oktoberfest treats as well as local eats like pizza and burgers.

Shop for fall-themed gifts and goods like pumpkin-scented candles, apple-cinnamon lotion and art, jewelry, clothing and accessories handcrafted by local makers.
Sample traditional German food and drinks, groove to live music and enjoy carnival rides, laser tag and karaoke at this family-friendly fest. The fest is free but rides and activities require tickets.
St. Alphonsus Oktoberfest Chicago
Pull out the lederhosen and dirndls for this celebration of traditional German culture. Two stages will feature polka and German dancers and musicians. Pretzels, brats and special beer tastings are also part of the festivities. Sunday’s fest is free with a suggested donation of $5.
This is not the cheapest fall event; there are many different admission packages for pumpkins, corn maze, axe throwing, carnival games, food and drinks. However, if you mention this deal, you can receive a free 3-axe-throwing ticket with admission.
