Free kids summer reading resources
The following free resources are available the summer.
Barnes & Noble Summer Reading. Students grades 1-6 read eight books and record them in their reading journals. Bring the completed form to Barnes and Noble and choose a free book, from the list in the Reading Journal, in July or August.
Chicago Public Library The CPL has thousands of actual books and digital books in many formats. The Library also offers a Summer Learning Challenge. How to get a library card.
Camp BOOK IT! Reading program from Pizza Hut. Kids pre-K to 6th grade can receive a coupon for a personal pan pizza every time they reach their reading goal from June through August.
DOD Summer Reading Program. Children of military families can participate in the Department of Defense summer reading program at bases and military installations worldwide. Activities vary depending on location.
Half Price Books Feed Your Brain Kids through High School can participate in this Summer Reading Program. Participants who reach their goal get a $5 reward in HPB Bucks.
Scholastic Summer Reading. Kids join a community of readers to read books and stories and to track their reading in a Reading Streak. The longer they extend their reading streak, the more digital experiences they earn. Experiences include: attending author events; interact with their favorite characters; play book-based games and activities; and more.
Sora K-12 reading app, Students get access to ebooks and audiobooks through their school/district collections, and possibly through their public libraries without a library card. Children of all ages can enjoy titles selected through the Sora Sweet Reads summer reading program. Teens can use Sora to check out free audiobooks each week through Audiobook SYNC.
