Art Institute After Dark

Where: Art Institute of Chicago, Modern Wing, 159 East Monroe Street
Admission: $35 adults, $25 members and students, $15 Evening Associates
This event is neither free nor cheap. In theory you may be able to check out limited parts of the museum without huge crowds.
Regular and free admission
Regular admission to the Art Institute, depending on where you live, is $22-$25. Free day for IL residents is Thursdays 5PM-8PM. Here are all 2019 Free Museum Days. If you have a Bank of America or Merrill Lynch credit or debit card you can also get in for free on select dates.
What is After Dark
After Dark offers late-night access to a special exhibition, a live performance, complimentary snacks throughout the evening, and a cash bar featuring a signature cocktail. Attendees must be 21+, and valid ID is required upon entry. I doubt you get full access to the whole AIC probably just restricted areas within the Modern Wing.
Other Museum After Hours events
Some other museums in town now offer after hours events, clearly as a way to raise additional revenue. I belive only the Adler allows you to have complete access to the whole Museum.
