Adobo Grill, 215 W. North Ave., (312) 266-7999. Reasonably priced Mexican.
Fireplace Inn, 1448 N. Wells St., (312) 664-5264. Wells Street institution since 1969 known for burgers (around $12) and ribs (1/2 slab with salad and side $18). Sit near the fireplace in winter and in garden in summer.
Happy Camper, 1209 N. Wells St., (312) 344-1634. Pizza starts at $10, tire swings, every cocktail and wine $9, cheap beer.
Kanela Breakfast Club, 1552 N. Wells Street, 312-255-1206. Cage-Free Organic Eggs, Julius Meinl Coffee, supports local farms and markets. Most items under $12.
La Fournette, 1547 N. Wells St., 312-624-9430. French bakery serving sandwiches, crepes, quiche, soups and salads under $10. I buy their french bread at Mariano’s.
Old Jerusalem, 1411 N Wells St, (312) 944-0459. Good quality low priced Lebanese and Middle Eastern. Most items around $10.
Twin Anchors, 1655 North Sedgwick Street, (312) 266-1616. Chicago-style fall off the bone ribs in messy sauce, if that’s your thing. The ribs are baked not barbequed or smoked. 1/2 slab with side and slaw $16.50.
